Connect's response to the Scottish Government Consultation on Nutrition in Schools
29th August 2018
In our snap survey, parents gave us their views on the proposed changes to nutritional guidelines for Scottish schools. We've used these in our response to the Scottish Government's consultation.
The majority of parents supported the Scottish Government proposals to reduce sugar, to require more fruit and vegetable portions and to reduce sugary drinks.
Views were less clear on cutting out fruit juice. We also asked for parents' views on artificial sweeteners and most parents did not agree with their use in primary or secondary schools.
Inadequate dining spaces and pressure of time, as well as concern about pupils leaving the school campus at lunchtime, featured in parents' comments.
