Connect's Response to the Scottish Government Consultation on Nutrition in School Meals August 2018

In our snap survey in August 2018, parents gave us their views on the proposed changes to nutritional guidelines for Scottish schools.  We've used these in our response to the Scottish Government's consultation.

Calling all parents! We are looking for your views on proposed changes to food nutrition standards in schools. Your answers will help inform our response to the Scottish Government's consultation.

The majority of parents supported the Scottish Government proposals to reduce sugar, to require more fruit and vegetable portions and to reduce sugary drinks.

Views were less clear on cutting out fruit juice.  We also asked for parents' views on artificial sweeteners and most parents did not agree with their use in primary or secondary schools.

Inadequate dining spaces and pressure of time, as well as concern about pupils leaving the school campus at lunchtime, featured in parents' comments.
